REGULAR DENTAL CHECKUP.
During the first consultation, the doctor wants to know about your medical condition as it directly affects your treatment plan, for example –in a diabetic patient, gum problem is very common. The second most important finding is drug allergy or the medicine you are taking. Some medicine causes dry mouth which leads to cavities.
This is a good time for the patient to talk about their fear which might be because of bad experience during their childhood or any previous dental experience. These reports are kept confidential and used for the benefit of the patient at a later stage.
A Dental Radiography is required in case the doctor feels the need to have a look at the status of your bone or to see the tooth structures so that it can resolve your problem in an early stage.
WHAT HAPPENS IN DENTAL CHECK-UP :
During this visit, the dental surgeon will ask about the problems which you have faced in the last 6 months. then tooth cleaning (Scaling) take place.
During the checkup, the dentist will look for cavities and plaque( a thin sticky layer of bacteria ) or hard deposits on the tooth surface that can not be removed with brushing. Then he will examine the depth of the gum which becomes deeper in the case of gum disease. The dentist will check your tongue, throat, palate or any swelling or any sign of cancer.
These hard deposits are removed with the help of special instruments such as ultrasonic scaler and after scaling the patient undergoes polishing which will make the tooth surface smooth.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE DENTAL CHECK-UP :
After a check-up, the Dentist will give a complete report and advice you a treatment which patient can start in the same or subsequent visit. A dentist will advise you about- Brushing technique- flossing technique, your Diet, consumption of alcohol and smoking.
NEXT DENTAL CHECK-UP :
After completing the check-up, the next dental check-up is confirmed usually, it is after 6 months but it may vary depending on your dental health status.
